As one of the most popular X-Men, Rogue was one of the least used characters in X-Men: The Last Stand. So to see her appear in promotions like the Empire magazine cover below for X-Men: Days of Future Past was a refreshing sight to see for her fans. Unfortunately, except for a brief moment at the end when everything had been reset to the good ol’ times, Rogue was nowhere to be found.
Why would Fox use Anna Paquin in their promotions if Rogue was hardly in the film anyway? Apparently, writer Simon Kinberg created a subplot revolving around the character for the film but didn’t make the cut. As good as the story and the filming was, it basically kept the pace of the main plot slow which wouldn’t have been good for the film.
Mark Newton of Movie Pilot says that Kinberg was interviewed in a podcast which revealed his thoughts if the material would ever see the light of day:
“When asked by the host, Jeff Goldsmith, if any of the deleted material would appear on the Blu-Ray release, there was a very brief pause followed by Goldsmith stating ‘Okay, good’, implying Kinberg had provided a non-verbal yes.
Of course, we can't be entirely sure what went down during the podcast, but this does seem like a tentative confirmation that Rogue's role could appear in the home release cut of X-Men: Days of Future Past, or at the very least, appear on the special features.”
If there was an entire subplot involving Rogue that was missing, then this would help promote the Blu-Ray version as fans love watching deleted scenes. This is especially more true if the character in it was popular and if the scenes were good enough to add to the existing story.
Personally, I would prefer to see Rogue’s scenes inserted into the main story so I have an excuse to watch the entire movie again. Then let me decide for myself if the subplot was good for the film anyway or if it robbed the film of a good pace.
What about you? Would you like to see Rogue’s story inserted in the main narrative or would you prefer including it in the deleted scenes portion of the Blu-Ray release?
